AMSOIL Serial 3000

An ongoing fleet demonstration is providing evidence of the excellent wear control of AMSOIL Serial 3000 Synthetic Diesel Oil. Since January 1996, AMSOIL and a northern trucking fleet have been conducting a demonstration using Serial 3000 in the 1996 Cummins N-14 ESP3 engines of five 1996 Kenworth class 8 trucks.

The trucks travelled 125,000 miles WITHOUT an oil change and the rate of wear metal generation found in Serial 3000 samples was LOWER than that found in used control oil, Pennzoil Long Life 15w-40, which is changed at 20,000 mile intervals.

Each test vehicle ran a baseline segment, in which the truck was equipped with the control lubricants, and three test segments, in which it was equipped with test lubricants. The control vehicle concurrently ran each driving segment using control lubricants.

Conditions including speed, tire pressure, headlight and fan use and window openings were held constant between all vehicles in each driving segment. Finally, testing proceeded only if wind direction, wind speed and temperature were within test parameters. Synthetic Diesel Oils.

Results

The weight of fuel consumed by each test vehicle and the weight of fuel consumed by the control vehicle in each driving segment were used to determine the percentage of fuel saved and the percentage fuel efficiency improvement obtained by the test lubricants. Results outside 2 percent of the norm were discarded.

The vehicles equipped with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants in the engines, transmissions and drive axle demonstrated up to an 8.2 percent increase in miles per gallon (mpg) over the mpg obtained by the vehicles equipped with the control lubricants.

Lubricants

The control lubricants were Shell Rotella T 15w-40 for the engines, Quaker State SAE 90 for the transmissions and Citco 85w-140 for the drive axles. The control truck used the control lubricants for all driving segments and the test trucks used the control lubricants for their baseline segments.

The test lubricants were AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5w-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil for the engine, AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 20w-50 Racing Oil for the transmissions and AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 75w-90 Gear Lube for the drive axles. The test vehicles used the test lubricants for their test segments. All vehicles used Exxon No.2 diesel fuel dispensed from the same storage tank for all driving segments.

Test of Oils

The research institute used the SAE Fuel Consumption Test, an industry standard test procedure for comparing in service fuel consumption of a vehicle operated under two conditions, one with the control lubricants in place, the other with the test lubricants in place.

The trucks were equipped with auxiliary weigh fuel tanks and quick disconnect couplings to facilitate accurate date gathering. Each truck pulled a 45 foot long flatbed trailer equipped with 11r-24.5 low profile tires and loaded with concrete blocks so that the gross vehicle weight of each vehicle was 75,550 lbs. Reducing Fuel Expenses

AMSOIL is the leader in the race to develop fuel efficient low-viscosity lubricants for trucking and other heavy-duty diesel applications. Independent laboratory testing shows AMSOIL Series 3000 5w-30 Heavy Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil in the engine and AMSOIL synthetics in the drivetrain provide up to 8.2 percent more miles-per-gallon than other popular lubricants provide.

At the request of AMSOIL INC., an independent research institute conducted a month-long test comparing the fuel consumption of Class 8 diesel trucks equipped with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants to Class 8 diesel trucks equipped with conventional lubricants. More on Synthetic Diesel Oils.

Diesel Drain Interval

October 11, 2010
Posted by Matthew King

AMSOIL Premium Synthetic Diesel Oils have shown the ability to maintain integrity in the face of fuel dilution in 2007-2009 light-duty diesel applications and continue to be recommended for three times the vehicle manufacturer recommendation, not to exceed 50,000 miles/600 hours or one year.

However, it is recommended that owners of 2007-2009 Dodge, Ford and GM light-duty diesel vehicles perform regular oil analysis as a precautionary measure. If oil analysis reveals greater than 5% fuel dilution, AMSOIL recommends changing the oil. The company will continue to closely monitor this situation, and if deemed necessary, will adjust recommended drain intervals in these applications.

Regeneration

Current emissions legislation set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates that all 2007 and newer on-highway diesel fueled vehicles come equipped with a DPF. A DPF is generally a honeycomb like filter positioned in the exhaust stream to collect particulate matter and soot to prevent it from exiting the vehicle. DPFs are highly efficient and can usually remove 80-90 percent of particulate matter from diesel exhaust.

When the filter is near its capacity, soot trapped in the filter is burned, freeing the plugged media and enabling the filter to remain serviceable. The process of burning the residual matter is termed regeneration and can be either active or passive. AMSOIL offer a complete line of Synthetic Diesel Oils.

Early Synthetic Diesel Oils

In 1975, AMSOIL came out with their Synthetic Diesel Oil, and through the years, they have improved their oil to keep up with the demands of the new Diesels coming out. Now we have stricter emissions requirements, and AMSOIL came out with their emission -quality diesel oil.

AMSOIL Synthetic 5w-40 Diesel Oil exceeds emission system requirements and is compatible with all exhaust treatment devices. It controls soot-thickening and engine wear, maximizes fuel economy and reduces oil consumption. AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oils have a low coefficient of friction that improves fuel economy by reducing the loss of power to friction. In fact, AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oils can increase fuel efficiency up to three percent.

Perferred Pricing

Some people might be put off by AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oils prices. I was talking to a potential customer on Friday, and he owns a 2009 Freightliner in which he just had the oil changed . The oil change he had done cost him $275.00, and he does this every two months. That’s six oil changes a year! I asked him how would he like to cut it down to a half, or more. Needless to say he wanted to know more.

The price of AMSOIL products is more, but you use them less, and you have less wear. Everybody can get wholesale pricing, all you have to do sign up as a Preferred Customer (through my website); it’s $20.00 a year to do this. You can buy 1quart or a truck load, it doesn’t matter. So do yourself a favor and sign up and get Preferred Pricing and start saving money.
